Lively by Google Privacy Notice
July 8, 2008
The Google Privacy Policy describes how we treat personal information when you use
Google's products and services, including information provided when you use Lively.
In addition, the following describes our privacy practices that are specific to
Lively.
Personal Information
- Account information and settings. To use Lively, you need a Google Account. Google
asks for some personal information when you create a Google Account, including your
email address and a password, which is used to protect your account from unauthorized
access. A Google Account allows you to access many of our services that require
registration.
- Lively stores, processes, and maintains your "My Contacts" list and other data
related to your Google Account in order to provide the service to you.
-
When you use Lively, we may automatically record information about your account
activity, such as when you use Lively, your number of log-ins, data displayed or
clicked on (including UI elements), and other log information (including browser
type, IP-address, date and time of access, cookie ID, and referrer URL).
Uses
- We use personal information that you provide internally to deliver the best possible
service to you, such as improving the Lively user interface and maintaining a consistent
and reliable user experience.
-
Your Lively ID and avatar name, but not other personal information, is displayed
to other users when you use Lively.
Your Choices
- Visibility to Other Users
- When you use Lively, other users may be able to see your online presence (including
your Lively ID name, your avatar name, and the room that you're currently in), the
rooms you've created, the messages you leave in the "Comments" section of rooms
and objects, and the content that you've created and made available in the rooms
catalog.
- If a room has 20 or more occupants, then you will only be able to enter the Room
as a "viewer." If you are a "viewer," then other users in a room won't be able to
see you and you won't be able to chat with them.
-
You can choose to "ignore" other users by clicking on their avatar and selecting
the "ignore" option. If you "ignore" another user, you will no longer see the user's
avatar or chat messages, but they will continue to see your avatar and your chat
messages.
- "My Contacts" List
- You can choose to add other users to your "My Contacts" list. Users on your "My
Contacts" list will be able to see which room you're in (even if you're in "viewer"
status), unless you "block" them.
-
If you "ignore" a user who is on your "My Contacts" list, then they will automatically
be "blocked" and your online status will not be displayed in their "My Contacts"
list.
- Chats
- Your chats are visible to all occupants of a room, unless you "whisper" to another
user, in which case your chat message will only be visible to the user to whom you
"whisper."
- You can see your chats in the chat history for the room you're in. However, chat
histories are temporary. When you sign out of a room, the chat history for that
room is no longer available to you.
-
Your chats in Lively are not saved for you, but you may copy and paste text chats
or otherwise manually record them. Google may temporarily keep a limited number
of your chat messages in order to resolve abuse reports, but those messages are
not accessible to users.
