Let’s hear it for the government; it just busted a criminal fraud ring targeting lonely older people.
After a two-and-a-half-year investigation, the Department of Justice arrested fourteen people and indicted another sixty-six. The targets were of a sprawling Nigerian Romance Scam that had bilked victims out of more than $46 million by the time of the indictments and arrests.
The news left a lot of people asking, “How could so many people be so naïve? Why would you send so much money to a stranger“?
The answer is simple.
- Have you ever paid for a date’s dinner because you can, and it makes you feel good?
- Have you ever offered to help out a good friend who needed a few bucks in an unexpected jam?
- Have you ever wanted to get together with someone…but they didn’t have the money, and you did?
Romance scams take advantage of our best impulses. They rely on our innate human desire to trust and connect. They turn generous, kind, loving, goodhearted impulses against us. Internet romance scams work because greedy people use time-tested lies to lure in their targets and elaborate money-laundering apparatuses to snatch and “lose” (forever) victims’ money.
These rings are sophisticated and they have perfected the craft. Vulnerable individuals are nearly defenseless against these tactics.
Meet the 71-Year-Old Anonymous Hero of the Nigerian Romance Scam FBI Bust
The woman who broke the Nigerian Romance Scam ring with the FBI is a hero, not a victim. She was trusting, but she was not wrong.
To protect yourself against scams, you cannot, should not, and must not cut yourself off from others; you need to become aware of how they work. That is why “F.K.” is a hero. She exposed how these scams work.
At age 71, F.K., began communicating through a social media group with “Captain Terry Garcia,” a “military man” she’d met who claimed he was stationed in Syria. Unfortunately, Garcia did not actually exist. “He” was a part of a global scam ring. He explained early on why he could not speak on the phone—military regulations did not allow it. After a month of cultivating F.K.’s trust through strictly platonic emails conversation, “Garcia” then made romantic gestures; F.K. responded.
Then “Garcia” told F.K. he had “found” a bag of diamonds in Syria, and he and friends had a plan to smuggle them out; would F.K. send cash to help? Then an “associate” got in touch to tell F.K. Garcia had been hurt, but the diamonds were safe.
By the end of the scam, F.K. had lost more than $200,000—much of which she had borrowed from friends and family.
“Garcia’s” associates had squeezed more than thirty-five payments from her and even threatened to have her arrested if she stopped paying. It was financially devastating, heartbreaking, embarrassing.
Most people would have slunk away. Instead, F.K. told her story to law enforcement, and we now know exactly what happened. Because of her willingness to go to the authorities, further scams from this ring need not happen to other seniors.
How to Fight Romance Scammers: Cut Contact, Report the Scammer, Warn Others
The Department of Justice stood behind F.K. and said clearly: Nobody deserves to be scammed. When predatory groups of individuals get together to use our own nature against us, exploit trust, and steal vast amounts of cash, the responsibility falls on them. Not on victims.
The FTC advises the following steps if you believe you’re dealing with an online scammer:
- End all contact immediately.
- Describe your concerns and the whole situation to someone whose judgment you trust. (Also, if family or friends have said they are concerned, worried, or noticed “red flags,” try not to become immediately defensive; they know and care about you, and may be noticing some early romance scam red flags.)
- Take advantage of reverse-image search to see if a new love interest’s photo is being used on other profiles with other names—that’s the reddest of flags.
- Use the internet to see if others have been scammed by people using the same stories.
- If you or a loved one has fallen victim to a scammer, never be reluctant, embarrassed, or afraid to report it—especially if the scammer has threatened you. Contact law enforcement or file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission.
Have you ever encountered a would-be romance scammer, either online or in the real world? How did you handle it? What would you tell other seniors about how to recognize and protect themselves against systematic emotional and financial abuse?

This is the bad part of growing old, there are crooks that trying to sheat you, In romance, cable companies, telephone companies etc.We are living in a very sick society.
Beware of the Grandmother scam. They call telling her grandson was in accident, bla, bla, bla. They know a lot about him…..finally they ask for money so he won’t go to jail because it was his fault. My friend fell for the scam and almost lost $ 14.000. At last minute something told her to be careful….called police. Nothing was done, but she came close.
I have had that one a few times,I told them to change the script as it’s old
I had one text me. After a week he wanted my cell phone number, which I refused. Then he requested that I go to a certain website so WE could talk PRIVATE and no one would be able to tape us. After several pleadings I tried to download this sight. He sounded frustrated because I couldn’t get there any faster than I did. He said he was in his 40’s and me 70, but age didn’t matter to me, said he saw my profile & liked it. Well, after I got in this SPECIAL website, I noticed there was a bunch of porn and foul sex talk on it. I immediately deleted this website and blocked him. He kept texting me asking if I liked the private site, but I never answered him. Deleted all our conversations.
i experience so be careful a military doctor assign in syria he told me to chat in hangout cos its first time to chat so i trusted i thoght he is true to me its been 5 moths chating and he said his salry is direct in usa bank so he need money for his son to pay school and i send it . Afew month continoud chating have somebody email me he said his my boyfreind comander. He told me to pay for airticket so my bf allow to realease in that war zone cos that area is dangerous just inform every body dont believe in this kind of scam
Always remember if it sounds too good then it is not good. All Seniors should know that if anyone ask for money a red buzzer should go off in your head. Only God can send me a decent man. LOL who wants a old lady except another old man. I for one refuses to hold up a man crossing a street, unless I have been with him for years. I will not I ,repeat take care of anyone, I’m not a nurse. God Bless Them that do. If you are from another Country FORGETABOUTIT. I have a great idea if anyone calls tell them you are broke looking for a sugar daddy, he will not call again. Take care, getting old is a privilege. So look in mirror and say I’m not a young beauty no more but I’m a smart old lady.
just don’t need any Romance
Scammer called me to let me know my grandson was in an accident that was his fault and they needed money to keep him from going to jail————— the thing is ——I don’t have a grandson!!! Gotcha scammer!
Hardly anyone has mentioned that dementia is common among older people, so it’s not only loneliness or desperation but an inability to see the picture clearly, all the while being flattered and “groomed” for money. These people are suffering from confusion and then suddenly someone appears in their lives offering a bright and nurturing presence. This does not make them stupid, just as a person who suffers a fall is not automatically labeled careless.
I agree. The lady who wrote the next post after you Ruby is her name I wanted to reply to her because the same thing has been going on with me for a year and 8months. And it feels so real that we will marry when he gets home….I NEED TO JUST TELL HIM CALL ME WHEN YOU GET HOME (which is Texas) but it is hard especially when you’ve been speaking with someone for that shoulder I leaned on. I wish I could find someone else that knows him. He goes by Richard Hucker . If anyone wants to chat you can Email me
Just was contacted by General in Afghanistan, he said he had 2 Briefcases with 2 million dollars with a Co in Va , it is closing he needs 3000 to get it out .Really .
hahaha, I had a generals from Nigeria and Uganda holding millions of dollars but wanted just a few thousands from me so they can release this money, what a stupid crooks.
I had a soldier who had 2 million dollars and I paid until I had no more money and he still asked me to get a loan for 40,000 dollars and of course I could not get it now he says he is being held for not paying the 40,000 dollars and has become really ill and wants me to send him $4800 to bribe the doctor so that he can be sent home to get the money to pay the tax. After two years I blocked him but he keeps trying to come back and always talking sweet saying he loves me and why won’t I pay for our love. He is too young and I am in my 70’s — no longer have any money and no longer infatuated just want him to go away.
They tried that with me as well but when I asked which grandson, he said your favorite one. I said my favorite one is 2 years old.. But I already knew it was a scam because it was tried on my 85 year old mother who told them to call me.. lol..
I received a call that my grandson got in trouble in Mexico and was in jail. The caller, who claimed to be my grandson’s friend, told me how dangerous the place was and we needed to get him out before he was hurt, or worse. I should send the money for bail quickly. I said, “They can keep him. He’s not worth the money. He’s been trouble for years.” The truth is I don’t have a grandson!! I knew it was a scam immediately.
Yes some of them use the same lines.
After a month or so they start with the sad History.
ha ha… good one!
We had a he same scam played on us. My husband was falling for it but I figured out that it was a scam and called my husband’s daughter who confirmed my suspicions.
That some thing you said told her was the Holy spirit of God her protection
The kid on my grandmother scam was not very smart. He want money for a friend’s funeral. But he used his voice. “You are not my grandson,” I said and hung up.
I got a call from “my grandson” who needed money to get out of jail because of an auto accident that was his fault. The trouble is——-I don’t have a grandson!!!!
When my ‘grandson’ called to tell me he was in jail in New Jersey through no fault of his own, I just sweetly reminded him that ‘we’d talked about him making impulsive decisions before and he should have told someone his plans because we had been worried. Since he was in jail, he was safe enough, and he could just experience the consequences of whatever misbehavior had landed him in jail, in New Jersey, of all places.
I have had that call also. I immediately called Kroger and asked about that and they told me “yes it’s a scam”.
No need to chat or find love one in here they are stupid and they use his son and family to get money to some chaters
I had a Captain posted in Afghanistan who couldn’t speak on the phone or Skype because of army regulations…he started off being friendly then gradually declared undying ❤️ before going for the jugular: asking for money because he needed to process a visa or some such nonsense…I’m a journalist and am fully aware of these romance scams, so I strung him along, played naive and deeply in love…can you imagine his frustration and anger when I tired of the game and told him to F-off! The best!😹😹
ha ha ha, nice one!!!
yeah that is how to treat them play along n bust them off.
Hmm, My scammer was Benjamin Persitz says from Army in Sryia.Fighting along aside the Kurds..His thing was Gold bars. Wanted me to pay Diplomat $5,150.00 to deliver to my house. Which stupid me did.. Gut stuck in Bermuda. They wanted $30,300.00 to release. He talked me into an equity loan on my house I’d sent other money to different people My total loss was $45,000.00 Course you know he knew I knew this was all a scam so He got off Kik!!
This happened to my mother. She wento Wal Mart to get some money to send. She told somebody that was in the store that worked there. Thank God my mom took their advice.
I would have said, go visit him in jail every weekend.
I;ve had several of those.. I nearly fell for the first one, but had the sense to phone my Grandson and when he answered the phone and all was well, it saved me.. since then I’ve had several more.. when they say “Grandma?” I say “Is this Jerry?”… they say yes, and I know its a scam.. I don’t have anyone named Jerry in the family.. this keeps me from ignoring a possible real need.. and exposes the scam immediately..
I had this happen to me. The caller claimed to be my grandson and needed money. I knew instantly it was not my grandson. My grandson had just left our home after a five day visit. My grandson would never ask me for money for he has a great job with an awesome income. Finally, this person called me Grammy. Not one of my grandchildren ever called me Grammy. We have a code name. I am so sorry for those folks who are scammed. I am tired of this sick society. I pray it never happens to me. I don’t have the answers but l know something has to be done.
I got a call from some idiot saying,”GrandPa!” I thought, Well I’ll play along. I responded. He told me He was in a Mexican Jail and He needed $3,000.00 Cash right a way. I asked Him, “Do you speak Spanish? He said,”No!” I said,”Well you’d better learn Spanish fast, because You’ll be there a while- -Pendejo!”
Muy bien, Carnal
My name is Patricia this Nigerian man name Man is Manasseh Ephraim MainMan he really got me good he was on my Romain sent me for two years I really fell in love with this guy he said he wanted me to come visit you he wanted to come back to the US I was sending him money he said he was sick he always was coughing spitting he complained about headaches his eyes he was a sweet talking guy I believed him then he started doing things to make me get upset when I’m talking to him on the phone at night I will hear moaning he will say I don’t hear anything he will put the phone on mute so he didn’t put it on mute this guy really have got me emotionally torn down I would love to post his pictures that’s one way to stop them I need someone to talk to he really did a job on me giving him money to get him a place to stay I bought his furniture and after all of that did he start talking to another US woman she knew he was talking to me she said I was just his supplier and she was his woman so that makes her a scammer to because she know I was giving him money she wants to marry him
I had that grandma scam a few years ago. Someone called claiming to be my grandson saying that his friend died and that the funeral was in Mexico. It was a long winded tale that ended by saying he was in a car that was stopped by the police and they found drugs so he got taken to jail and he needed money to get out. I said “tell me your mother’s name”. He was shocked and I repeated it. That ended the call but I thought maybe the police disconnected the phone so I called his mom, my daughter, to ask. Thankfully she had just talked to him and he was fine. She said it is a common scheme.
Several years ago I had a contact from a Us Soldier in Afghanistan. Similar story..they’d found a cache of several million dollars. And he needed me to get it out!😳. I replied that I couldn’t get that sum of money into the foreign country where I live without going through the US Embassy. I did reverse search. Said Sgt did not exist. He was using a private server…not logical with the military. I threatened to report him to authorities. End of communication.
I am canny enough not to give money to anyone, especially strangers. I’m not generous by nature, and always suspect of offers of friendship online.
It’s a pity seniors are so vulnerable and gullible.
How do you do a reverse search because I can’t find him anywhere?
That scam happened to my mom, until we made contact with the grandson who was supposedly in trouble.
He cleared up the issue. He was fine, and was at work! My mom almost sent 10,000;$ to get him out of “ “jail.”
What a huge scam that was.
I would love to catch a scammer. I am a grandmother, sleeping soundly, phone rings, it was my grandson (not). I was scammed for $7000.00 Two years ago. Since then I have learned not to respond to “grandsons”calls. However , since then I have had two other attempts. both involving my “grandson”. (I was not fooled the last two time) however, I would love to know how to “catch” him if he tries again?…. Last time I kept him on the line as I used my land line to call police…. He felt something was wrong so he hung up on me…. Hope it doesn’t happen again, but what could I do to catch him?….
This is not the bad part of growing old. It is part of being stupid. I am the same age and would NEVER give money to someone I didn’t know. In fact I keep it because I need it to live.
I’M WITH YOU!! I JUST SIT HERE AND CANNOT UNDERSTAND HOW STUPID AN OLD PERSON CAN BE!! THEY MUST BE DESPERATELY LONELY TO THINK THAT ITS REAL. I WATCH DR. PHIL AND SEE ALL THOSE PEOPLE GET CAT FISHED FOR THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS AND THINK HOW DUMB THEY MUST BE.. I’M SORRY BUT I HAVE NO SYMPATHY FOR THOSE ISIOTS!!!
Not everybody is an idiot
this is very bad it happening to most old people who need the money to stay happy. Let them be cursed.
So, you think because someone is old, they are stupid? You’re the one that is, plus you can’t even spell correctly.
You go girl.
What right do you have to call anyone an idiot
What gives you the right to call someone an idiot. Being older and alone is not fun. Kind words and attention is needed by all people.
I AM AN IDIOT THE FIRST ONE ONLY TOOK ME FOR 950 DOLLARS BEFORE I SAID NO THE NEXT ONE THE NUMBERS WERE HIGHER I LLIVE IN A SMALL TOWN AND LIVE ON SOCIAL SOCIETY ANOTHER LADY FROM HERET GO A 150 000 FOR THE 950 SO 1 BIT WRONG MOVE I KEPT AT IT EVEN AFTER THE LOCAL POLICE TOLD ME TO STOP IT WAS A SCAMP ALL TOTAL I LOST OVER 30,000 TO PAY BACK WITH INTEREST HIGH INTEREST . I AND DOING TTO DIE IN DEPT IN DEBT THE IS NO INE TO HELP ME NO ONE CARES ABOUT THE LITTLE WOMEN MY HEALTH IS NOT GOOD AN I TAK CARE OF MY SICK DAUGHTER
Not just old people I had a man that is a police officer fall for a scam from Nigeria this woman just fell in love with him and if he just send her $600 she’d get right on a plane and come over here to him now you would think that a police officer would have better sense than that no he sent her several thousand dollars
I agree I have seen some of these women on Dr. Phil,, and kept thinking, “You need to look in a mirror honey?” IF A YOUNGER GUY WANTS AND OLDER WOMEN HERE IS WHAT THEY NEED, FIRST, BEAUTIFUL LOOKS, NOT RUN IN THE MILL AVERAGE. SHE IS FAMOUS, OR WELL KNOWN FOR HER TALENT ALBEIT IN ANY FIELD, MONEY, AND WELL EDUCATED AND THESE GUYS ARE NOT LOOKING FOR A MOTHER BUT A DROP DEAD GORGEOUS WOMEN, WITH POSITION AND POWER. BECAUSE THEY ARE HANDSOME, INTELLIGENT AND WANT THE BEST FOR THEMSELVES.
Gee, it must be nice to be perfect.
All they are after is $$$$$. The young men doing this send photos of middle aged handsome men and they are always working for an oil company, or they are orthopedic surgeons. I have had many requests for “friendships” but I recognize the scam almost immediately. They want to talk on a site called “HANGOUTS”. I have learned a lot from watching Dr. Phil.
While it’s true that we may wonder how people can be fooled by these scammers, some people may not be able to differentiate truth from lies, especially old people who are lonely and vulnerable. This is no reason to insult them! Show compassion, it’s what makes us human!
But, But, what about the Princes or the nuns who only want what’s good for me and if I only can wire XXX to their Lawyer they can return it 10-100 times over. I always say I’ll be in Legos next week and I can swing by the lawyer’s office and drop off a check in person. Nevwer hear back.
YOU should fix your caps lock. I suppose you are one who hopes they never get old enough to get Dementia or Alzheimer’s.
They are human. In our cold society, many are afraid to become assertive. A person can not win. All the foolish laws that can destroy a career. There are ways of tracking by using the header and by being alert to plants and other clues. Beware that many of these crooks are now in-country or Canada as the pressure on immigration has allowed many crooks to come in and it is very easy to learn sights, schools etc in your town so thewy seem like a local.
Our agist society makes meeting people socially, very difficult.
You are obviously a Trumkateer. If you think lots of “criminals” are infiltrating our country. Wrong !The numbers don’t back that up. trump is acting. He thinks he’s starring in a movie.
It’s all about him. His ego is like the universe.
Dr Phil Is a scammer to!
Yes he is. All he looks for is $$$$$$$$. Now he has his wife advertising on his program. He has the answer to every problem. But he never goes back to tell his listeners how these people are today.
There but for the grace of god. I hope you never experience such loneliness.
I ASK FOR NO SYMPATHY FROM OTHERS FOR MY BEING SO NAIVE AND WANTING TO BELIEVE SOMEONE LOVED ME. IT WAS MY FIRST COMPUTER THEN AND MY LEARNING THE LINGO AND HOW TO USE IT. ID BEEN ALONE 40 YEARS . I CANT BLAME ANYONE BUT MYSELF AND MY NAIVETTE. ENDED UP SEEING A PSYCHATRIST FOR A YEAR, THIS GOES DEEPER THAN MY GETTING SCAMMED THAT NO ONE WILL UNDERSTAND. DONT TRUST A SINGLE MALE NOW EXCEPT MY SON. NOTHING IS REAL TO ME. DONT WISH TO DIVULGE MY NAME!
I got a call from someone named Larry he had a heavy indian accent !! he told me he was from Microsoft and that they were getting signals someone was trying to access my computer and possibly put a virus in it !! they said that if I wanted their help to just dial 1 which I did ! someone answered again with a heavy indian accent and asked if I was close to my computer !! I said I don`t have a computer but I have a toaster do you think my toaster is sending you signals ? SLAM there goes the phone !! so rude !! lol I am 80 and I like playing their games !! have also played the grandson game and the you just won a million dollars game !! my wife gets after me !!
I AM SO SORRY….I FELL IN LOVE TOO. I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR HIM FOR A YEAR AND A HALF. IT HURTS.
You are a very wise person and well informed. Please don’t blame the victims. They already feel bad enough and that makes them not tell anyone what happened because people call them stupid.
I personally would not send money or buy into the crazy stories. Some people are just desperate for love and friendship.
I busted4 scammers. I am 71 and not stupid. Like to mess with them before block. The names Gary nathan, Houston TX, Daniel Torres , California Michael luckson Massachusetts I think and Jameson Tyler, medico. Wanted me to open fb ACC for him!!!!! No no and no. Gary wanted iTunes card I told him I don’t give money or anything. Not even to Jesus!!! Looks watch out ladies for these bums
Brilliant! Entertainment for the aged. I am also not a youngster and love stringing them along and wasting their time and effort before dropping the bomb.
I had a guy was supposed to be a Christian, he had come from England, his parents died, left him destitute , had no siblings and his wife died and was love of his live, he worked on a ship and they off the coast of Africa9according to a port he names, then had a bad storm,, ship not doing well. Asked for help from UN as it was cargo from them ( of course there was a lot of love in all this of course) well he wanted my phone and told it was good for oversees so he wanted my address (now this is different as far as money goes) but he had mariners paper and other person stuff and told him to send it to his hometown, he said no one would be there to receive it that is why he wanted to send it to me. I just told him he didn’t know me, maybe I wasn’t who I said I was and he really got upset at that. I could just see me receiving contraband of some sort, don’t think so. I can tell when they are and aren’t real by the questions I ask and mostly to answer and I think they don’t really read the messages and have a standard messages they use. I said if I was wrong just let me know by answering by my message, never heard from him again. I also try to find out about them from the internet, Facebook etc. I check their hometown because have used fake towns etc. There are many way to find out if they are real. I have tried the reverse image thing, didn’t know such thing was possible.
They are not necessarily stupid; the loneliness and mental degeneration, neglect from loved ones and just the need to feel loved and wanted can drive vulnerable people over the cliff. You are probably lucky to be in such a category
I have found it fun to play their game for awhile. It is amazing how many different reasons they find for needing money. It also is laughable that they fall deeply in love within hours of the first contact. NEVER EVER would I send a penny to anyone I didn’t personally know.
I play a popular word game online..Im always getting hit on.1-.Even when I tell them I’m married, they say it doesn’t matter. 2- Always want me to go to Hangouts or Whatsup. Even when I say I don’t do that, they persist…3- Work in the Oil industry, someway..4- Military, in Syria, Iraq or Afghanistan…5- They All say the same thing..like they are ALL Reading from the Same SCRIPT…6-Single or Widowed..either from Cancer, or giving Birth..Occasionally, a horrific car accident…7-The single child they have..either boy or girl, stays with A..a Nanny or B..in a Boarding School, while they are out of the Country…
I’ve been asked for Itune cards. Just recently, “a soldier” said while out on Patrol, they found like $200-300 Thousand U.S. dollar’s and was going to Trust Me, in asking if I would help him get His Share back to the States, and he would give me about $50 Thousand for helping him..I didn’t even give him a chance to ask me for Transfer $, I just sent him a message that he was a bigger scammer than I thought, by trying to insult my Intelligence, thinking I would fall for that !! Of course I deleted and blocked him.. I do feel really sorry for all the lonely Women..and some Men, that fall prey to these Assholes !!! It makes it where you honestly don’t know who to trust…I haven’t used that Reversal thing, don’t know how yet…But believe me…it’s not just Single or Widowed Ladies…they even try us married ones…Stay Safe Out There…
Wow! I am so glad I came across this article. My “catfisher” was Steve Arron, a widower from Spirit Lake, IA. He also was working on a huge contract/oil rig in Cyprus. We connected on Facebook dating app, but I could never find a profile for him on any social media. Steve also could not send selfie photos when asked. I was suspicious the entire time he was texting me. My teenage daughter pointed out that he was most likely catfishing me. The final straw was when he asked me to email another party asking for the tracking number for a shipment of equipment for the oil rig in Cyprus, because the WiFi was bad there. I blocked/deleted immediately. Nice to know I’m not alone in being targeted.
I have had many foreign romances.
I never sent money to a woman I had never met. If she is poor, and spent 50 dollard to come to airport, give her money on meeting.
I corresponded with a young Russian woman for 6 mos. She wanted to come to US. I said no . I would come to Russia. Aeroflot has 500 dollar fare.
I even got photos for Russian Visa.
I emailed my brother some pocs of her and he said they were fake.
There are risks in any relationship anywgere. But is it too good to be true.
First meetng stay at your own hotel.
If you dont try you cant succeed.
Tell them you will be on the next plane ….if they send you the ticket. ….
Thats funny.. A Benjamin Persitz was mentioned earlier.. He was my scammer.. His thing with me was gold bars.. Got me hocked up with a diplomat named Agustin Moonves from Sryia . Talked me into sending someone else $5,150.00 to deliver it to my house. Got hung up in Bermuda customs. Then they wanted $30, 300.00 to release it Benjamin talked me into taking an equity loan on my house. Still never made it! In total I lost $45,000.00 You know Amazon cards. Proxy marriage. Last I heard from him was November 26 th.
It always has been a cruel world, but unfortunately it’s getting worse than it use to be. God have mercy on those scammers when Karma gets ahold of them.
They’ll never get me!
There are more serious scam of selling so called stem cell fruit juice products in less developed nations to elders who wanted to live longer and healthier. Western scammers used greedy local partners in Malaysia through direct selling promising the sky when actually there is nothing legal in their claim. These groups of scammers use whatever trick to befriend lonely retirees, bring them to karaoke, various meeting, banquet, and slowly sell them their elixirs at 10 of thousand dollars per shot. These are scum that the society and government officials should look at carefully.
Hi, my name is grace and I am 12 so I have the kids messenger and there was a scammer who had an account that had my friends name and pic so I accepted the request. the first message I get is ¨ I don’t mean to dump this on you but my mom and dad just got sent to jail! I need $10,000 to get them out of there! Can you take the money out of your moms account so I can get them out of that horrible place!¨
Of course I didn’t believe it so I was safe! But then i got another message from another scammer and the first message I get is a pic of a man’s private part with a message saying he wanted to have sex with me! I called him a perv. and blocked him now thank goodness I have not a problem since!!!
First of all if it sounds to good to be true then it isn’t. As a retired investigator I would ask people think about this. Why would a person you never met appear out of no place and offer you all this money 💰 but you would have to give them 💵 dollars in order to receive it like selling the Brooklyn Bridge that’s not yours.. It’s not just older people lots of so called educated savvy women has been hoodwinked also. 👀Looking for that “thing call ❤️ Love.
Thus doesn’t only happen to women, men have been taken also. There are sleezy women in this world, too. Hate to say that ladies, but it’s true.
I agree. After my husband died and was gone for sometime, I tried several dating services. It is amazing the things people tell you. Some are very good at what they do and can string you on sometimes for quite some time with telephone love, sex, and many promises or possibilities. If you are a loving, giving trusting person, male or female, they read you like a book and play some very strong believable parts and they back them up with pictures and documents. Luckily, I am a hard working girl and come from a hard working family. When I am asked for money, electronics, etc. I cannot afford to give and would never ask someone to do that for me. It is not in my value or boundary system. We have worked hard mentally and physically for everything we gained without using, lying or cheating. Am I rich, No, but I have my self respect and can live with myself.
I never want to do something to someone that I would not want done to me. We are human and some of us have been through some very painful events and we want to believe there are some good people out there that act similar to ourselves. I am very sorry and ashamed that the human race can be so ugly, mean and brutal.
It truly is best not to judge. If we had walked and lived in the shoes of the people that have given out of love and empathy, how can we judge. I do believe everyone would benefit from teachings of respect and healthy boundaries from the very beginning of their lives.
It was a few years back. We talked for several months before he asked for money. We talked on phone and used Facebook messenger. I never sent him money. He also asked for a certain kind of phone. I can usually spot a scammer now as I think they all go to the same school. I am alone again my longtime boyfriend passed away in August and my granddaughters are wanting me to go online again. I met Den online, but now it kind of frightens me.
Scamming Scammers Action has been educating potential victims/scammed persons and their page was unpublished November 4th, 2019 by Facebook.
Facebook just announced Facebook Dating. Coincidence??? I think not.
I have talked to a few men that tryed to get money out of me. I was aware of people trying to scam older people. The first wanted me to send him $2,000. Daid he was on a ship in the Gulf of Mexico. Something about a machine tearing up and he didn’t have enough money to order the part. Next on was really romanic diamond carrier. Was in south Affrica didn’t carry enough money to get back home. Claimed to love me ect. I never sent either one of them money thank God I was hurt but I new once they asked for money it was a scam. After 10 months the second called me an asked me for a card to put on his phone. I told him I have someone.
one gyes text me about 2 years ago and wonted money said that he was away from home but i didnt send any money
Last scammer I met online said he was civil engineer, seems most are some kind of engineer, quickly met much younger woman who would bail him out who very conveniently wore wedding rings in next photos, guess to convince me he was lagit..
Good clues, they set up dating site while working some other place than one given, usually born in other country or educated abroad. They all found excuses not to meet you. I have got to place its like reading funny pages and all came from dating sites.
In fact, if I even looked at their profile, wonder how long until they want money.
Web site hangout is where all scammers like to go justsaying
Follow your G U T…if you’re afraid there’s a reason…YOU SHOULD BE AFRAID…Always listen to your quiet voice…it’s never wrong…❤️
Follow your G U T…if you’re afraid there’s a reason…YOU SHOULD BE AFRAID…Always listen to your quiet voice…it’s never wrong…❤️
Always do a vidio call if they can’t block them and yes always listen to your gut feeling and if you are talking to someone and they call you and do vidio chats all the time and never ask for money no matter the age because it’s just a number it’s how you connect with someone that counts then who s to say it can’t work out
I think you should go back online, accept only people you know or who are friends with people you know……. there is alot of good information online, DO STAY AWAY FROM ONLINE ROMANCES
Reply to Anonymous: Is the ‘Den’ you mentioned in Illinois?
These things are for real. I did have these men saying they want to be friends then later talk about bank accounts they could withdraw millions from dead people’s account who met accidents or gold bars and diamonds they have found; unlucky for them I can smell “bogus” right away and blocked them.
Never ever send them money
As soon as my husband died I started getting requests on Facebook to friend them. Many were from middle eastern countries with glamorous professions like fighter pilot, trauma surgeons etc. They were all widowers ( yeah right). They said they saw my picture and were smitten with my beauty) oh bull shit. These are scams you can smell a mile away. I have seen many shows where women were convinced these men loved them and just needed their financial help to get them back on their feet. Another bull shit. It mystifies me that some of these women gave these men THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS.
I made a comment on a wedsite that uses fb, called my funny page or something like that, and this guy replyed to the comment i made, he said something like hello, noticed you have an adorable smile, he said he wanted to know if we could be friends, I just deleted his comment. I am married and don’t need any of that in my life. I am 80 ys old, and thought oh my gosh. This is all wrong. Just beware.
talked to quite a few scammers the minute money is mentioned i block them i will never give someone money i dont know
I agree with you 100%. I “met” so many I lost count. They ALL have the same MO. My red line is: the moment they ask for money, I smell a rotten egg & block them immediately. All the same. Must have been over 30 male, or close to 50.
I have also been contacted by so called “military men”, when I looked at their profiles, none of them had any friends. The “come on” was always the same. Beware….
I just got a friend request the other day lol.
I had a friend who lost her job with a Major bankng institution because she gave $15,000 from her retirement account to a “military man” wo needed money to get food etc. They felt that she wan’t reliable when she fell for this. Sad.
I was contracted by one suppose-able military man stationed somewhere in Illinois. He started out by just saying hello. Stupidly I answered him. Then he told me that due to his position in the service, he couldn’t speak with me openly on FB or on messenger. He had posted a picture of a man in Army clothing. I told him I was preparing to retire for the evening when he first spoke to me. He did everything he could do to keep me on the line. How old was I, did I live alone. I didn’t answer the very personal questions he asked. When he asked me if I was in a relationship I wised up imediately blocking him.
True. I had someone tell me I have a beautiful smile and he wanted to be my friend. I have seen men comment the same thing to other people. They are always young. Good looking, and either in the military (offficer) or have a high powered job. They also have NO friends and only one picture. I’d like to warn people about them, but I figure no one would listen anyway.
And when you check out their Friends list..All the people, women, are Middle Eastern..but the Dude is Suppose to be American…
I have had a couple of so-called military men request my financial assistance in sending items to the US. I knew that something was amiss, I am too leery of strange men to part with my money. I blocked them!
Alone doesn’t mean lonely!!
Scamming Scammers Action has been educating people against scams , their page was unpublished November 4, 2019.
I finally figured it out after the first call and finally put it together. I’m fortunate I didn’t send any money but now that I learned the game I enjoy screwing with these people. I play the game for however long it takes then when the first request for money is asked I blow the lid off their scam. You should hear the anger in their voice when I call them out. It’s priceless
That’s what I do kinda fun lol
I am an older man, I get this from those pretending to be young sexy women. I can normally tell by their language and sentence structure if they are American. Some are American however I will tell them to send me a now selfie, after I get that I will tell them to change one thing and send another, example if wearing a top with shoulder straps then I will tell them to pull one strap down and send another. Of it is someone using someone else’s photo then they would not have the second selfie.
Some are real but make their living preying on older men. Regardless of what they say never send money or cards.
My husband fell for a younger woman in her 30’s from Ghana. He sent her 360.00 via Western Union. He even had plans of bringing her here to the US. Needless to say this had destroyed our marriage, and he continues to search for women on Facebook. He can have a great life with his “flat screen pixel chicks” scammers.
I have received some very perverted, vile e-mails. I have no idea why or where they come from. As soon as I see one, I delete it immediately. Is there a way to stop them?
Yes. Block the e-mail address that sent them.
Beware of anyone who sends you pics of checks or airplane tickets. I was talking to a guy that was local (Dallas area) and we had planned to meet. Well he gave some story about mining blue garnets — yep there are such a thing I checked. Beware of platforms in the ocean just beware oh yes they like to use the owrd Dear a lot and their grammar is really bad
That same thing just happened to me here in AZ. He had to go to NY at the last minute cause he got the contract to mine Blue Garnets in Cyprus. Then he flew to Cyprus but lost his computer and wanted me to buy him a new one. I said No and told him I was going to report him to the FBI and that’s the last I heard from him.
I don’t know if I have been scammed or not. The person seems to know things that only the person he is imitating or supposely imitating would know. I contacted law enforcement over 2 years ago and they have done nothing. I’m out of $30,000.
Youve just been scammed! Never send anybody money!
Don’t feel bad I feel I have also been scammed out of $17,000.00 from someone I checked out totally. It is not stupid to believe love is never to late for and age. I stopped sending money to him and will have to adjust to the loss of money, i still am hopeful he didn’t scam me but I will wait and see, by withholding money from him if it was the money only he wanted or could he actually care. I am prepared for the worse and hope for the best .
sorry for ur loss, don’t send money to him again or send me his information if he’s a Nigerian i will fine out
I can help
is 2 yrs and u r saying u don’t know if u have been scam? you have been scam. when ever the issue of money comes in just block d person. don’t wait for second guess
So many of them are using Words With Friends to connect with us.They are widowed with minor children being raised by nannies while they are drilling oil out of country with contracts that pay them personally or a Doctor in Syria on a peace keeping military job.
I had the same one with small children, drilling in Istanbul. But supposedly from US. His namr is Thomas Hamilton
SOUNDS LIKE The same guy I WAS TALKING TO LOL No money
EXACTLY THE SAME STORY!
This guy said he was on an oil rig, he needed money for his phone bill which was $200, didn’t send it, then he said his daughter was in the hopsital and need some personal items, i didn’t send that either.. He wanted to marry me.. I told he let’s forget the whole thing , and now I’m back to the drawing board…
Yes. This is how you tell a scammer on words with friends. If they are a new player they are usually not what they say they are. It is really bad on words with friends
You are so right. Words with friends is bombarded with sly folks. All same story same line down to money
Lol. So many widowed doctors in Syria….I’ve been playing Words for awhile and they are all over. Their insistance is ferocious…..It never got to the point where they asked for money..and….I would never give money to anyone, but it’s harassment…..now if I want to play I block messages before I start. After 2 words they resign.
I have had the same thing happen to me on Word with Friends. Consistently talk to me on there. I’ve called them out identified them as scammers and immediately their profile is gone and the game is gone. I’ve threatened to report them you can tell by their English half of them are widowed raising a child from Florida building a bridge or on an oil rig in Bahrain or Afghanistan etc. I lost track count of how many I received just in the last couple of weeks. There should be some way to block these guys. Right away they want personal information out of you. Are you married do you have children do you own your own home what do you do for a living etc. etc. it’s kind of scary how many women fall for this. But it sure is been happening a lot lately on that game are used to enjoy playing but now it’s just getting annoying
I’ve had that happen to me, but I do t give them the correct answers. They reallllly get upset when you won’t send them money or you hesitate in answering their personal questions. English is horrible!!! I’ve had one that his child was in hospital and he needed money to hire a nanny/nurse to care for her while he was in Washington on business. Supposed to live overseas but traveled to Washington couple times a month.
I was corresponding with a doctor who was serving in Syria with the UN Peace Mission. He claimed to be a Widower, (wife died in a car accident six years ago) one son who is being schooled in UK, and was just diagnosed with chronic leukemia cancer, (dying) and a young daughter ( living in the states some where) Hinting to me he needed money to get his son into a treatment program. He stated to me he could not leave Syria without someone to validate the need for his early release. There was no one he could turn to except me (a complete stranger). First asked for gift cards so he could easily get a special line on his phone (did not send) so he could easily keep in contact with the child’s doctor) Before treatment could begin on his son, he needed to get about $6,000.00, USD up front to the doctor, (something he was unable to do because he only had a inactive credit card and also, was unable to do business, in the states, with his banking branch.) l found it hard that this prominent doctor had no one ( close friends or family) he could turn to for help except for me a complete stranger. So, now his son needs to wait for treatment to begin til his father comes home which is about a month away.
Words he would say that made me question: He would proclaim his undying love for me ( how can one love someone so deeply when they haven’t even met), he would say we are family, called me dear, hon ( l am not his dear or hon …. l don’t know you and you don’t know me. He said “our son” or “our family “ ( working on my heart strings) If l had a specific question to him, most times he would avoid a response. He would stray from the question or agree to do something that was asked of him, but never for fill his word. Sometimes his words were redundant, like he was trying to sell himself . There were also things he wrote that l wanted to believe.
Yes, l miss corresponding with him. He wrote things of his wants and things he wished to do in the future with that someone special. Things that l would have love to share with him but my happiness and my trust is far more paramount to me than material thing or empty words. He made me feel young again. There is that possibility he was telling me the truth or maybe not. Right now, l’ll never know; I just had to go with my gut feelings .
I had a coworker that was corresponding with a ‘trauma surgeon’ working in syria under the UN. Same story. He had been away from the US for about 7 yrs and somehow was not being allowed to leave where he was, held against his will (by the UN) had a daughter age 14 who had been raised by a nanny all the years he had been gone. He was unable to access his money, so, the question was who has been paying the Nanny all these years. His wife had died when the daughter was 5. Everyone at work tried to counsel this women and tell her she was being scammed but to no avail. Finally one day she told us he was in custody and that the FBI had contacted her, they were trying to gather evidence as he had already scammed many people. However, she was nonetheless still waiting for him to be released from custody and come home and marry her. Now she knows its hopeless, but guess what, she has since been corresponding with a guy who says he’s american but he’s in mexico working or something. It never ends.
They all have the same MO. I’ve had several attempts on me. They are all single with a child. Child needs mom. They are either engineers, doctors, or military and are overseas or going there. They ask for ITunes cards. Had one want me to send him three hundred dollars in them. They can get into your phone and learn all about you and like to talk on hangouts or WhatsApp.
They eventually all ask for money for some emergency. I think they have a school they go to that teaches them all this. If and when they ever call they have horrible accents and you know they aren’t from US. And finally they fall in love with you and talk beautiful love language. This is just a quick overview but ladies please be extra careful. It’s very easy to get taken in by them. I could tell you many more things but you get the general idea. I know this because it almost happened to me. When he started wanting money I didn’t have any to send so I let him know in no uncertain terms to leave me alone. That I knew he was cat phishing and I didn’t play that game. And yes, words with friends game is loaded with them. I quit playing and removed it.
I’ve heard a few scammers like that, one claim to be a Four Star General
Me too, and… lol… it was a young guy in his 20s
How did you know he was in his 20’s?
Sounds like the one who contacted me. When he asked for money to buy a birthday present for his son, I ended it. It would have much more the next time if I had not realized there should not be a first time.
The orthopedic surgeon in Syria is all over the scamming place.
I was almost scammed. Guy said he was from New York, posted a pic of him with oil field hat. Said he was working in Norway on a drilling rig. Second he told me he loved me. what? I said too soon. Finally I had enough. That’s when he ask me to send him $200 worth of ITunes cause his card was bad. It’s called Catfishing. Found out he was Nigerian wanted by the law. Be ware ladies. I quickly blocked him.
I have not been out any money. But have received an email from a supposedly security shipping co. Asking for large amount of money to release a pkg to me from Middle East. I am very skeptical. Not sending any money. This person that sent it says they are working in the Middle East. Under contract. For US.
I have had three of them, it isn’t fair that your goal is to take advantage of any woman. Take care and far away from them.😇🙏🏽
Military men on Syria and other places and men working on oil rigs that have children or grandchildren they are raising alone, pictures of a child that got run over by a car, money, gold bars or jewels in Kenya that they need bank account info and money to get said property, home, had to go to a foreign country to settle relative’s estate then did not have money to get home. My favorite one is they fall in love with my picture and know I could be their soul mate forever! Broken English, not what a military person would use. Multiple misspellings. Need I say more?
ever heard of Henry James says he in Syria says hes a Doctor and he has a son name after him in boarding school over there hes been trying to get me to send money to him for his sons school books hes from Hamburg New York
I am so grateful for this site and for those of you who took the time to post warning messages. I have been playing words with friends for many years, and just in the past month, I have had four men invite me to play. I told some of them that I am probably old enough to be their mother. Others I told that I am aware that I can block the chat feature, but that would also block our games. Only one seemed interesting. He said he was an orthopedic surgeon working for the UN in Syria. Well! I messaged back that he matched the profile we were warned against on an anti-scamming site, and not to contact me again. He used the name Dr. David Weiss. All 4 men disappeared before getting to the asking-for-money stage. I don’t chat with anyone any more, except friends, and my profile pic is now a photo of my cats.
I have been on and off dating websites for a few years now. I also play words with friends. I have learned quickly whether someone is a scammer. I quickly block and report them. Some of these people claim to be engineers. I have not sent them anything at all.
Me too on words with friends, my friend and I were chatting with the same person and getting the same BS..then 4 more after that similar stories..I don’t chat on that site anymore..They never got any info or money from me! Beware ladies!!
Yes military people in Niheria are being scammed by other people. You can notify military criminal dept. For verification
Instagram is full of fake pictures. A lot will post a photo of a military officer and say they are in Syria. No military officer posts on Instagram. I finally deleted my account. Boring anyway.
Met a man, on fb said he was a widow. 1 child. was engineer on a oil rig on contract. Last one he was retriering one month.Wanted to now if I would do him a favor. And buy him a new video card. I ask how much he said 1,000.00 dallors. I said what do think I’m stupid. I said no.Had to block him and the site were I found him. I new he was trying to scam early on. Idiot
A man, on an oil rig, first wanted to go on vacation with me but I had to pay the oil company $1100 since he was such a respected engineer. No money was sent. Then he said he said he has pneumonia but the company won’t fly him back since he retired early. Also a widower, 2 small kids with a nanny. I’m playing the game. Who would want a 70 yr old woman when he’s 58 to raise his 4 yr old?!
Had a few of these contact me..They all use the same script…New it right off..So I ask them for money first…They don’t call back…Love it
I had the same experience. He wanted money to send a PKG. Home.it was being held in a foreign country. I couldn’t get the money but he said how much he loved me, when he didn’t get the money he wasn’t very nice.i blocked him.
I dealt with my first one over 4 years ago. I questioned the grammar & spelling, when they were supposedly from Scotland, and schooled in oil engineering. I also wondered why he loved me in about a week or so. I put the red flags away, cause I enjoyed the attention. After a month, he dropped a bombshell. He needed $1000 to wrap up a business deal in Malaysia, or he was afraid he would become ill. The place was so foreign to him, and the heat so exhausting. When I said I couldn’t give it, pretty soon, he disappeared….unfollowed or deleted me. Guess he fell “out of love” with me…….I read up on them pretty soon after that, and learned to spot them immediately. They are not very original!
I had same thing happen to me with 3 different men one said he was on a ship his daughter got hit by car I ask him what father let’s his daughter lay in hospital why he was with her he stopped talking to me one was good miner ask me to marry him but all wanted money no
I met a man thru a professional we both follow. He seems do legit. We have communicated for 3 months. He is an oil rig engineer and is drilling in Scotland. He plans to cone meet me when his job is complete. He recently said he needs to replace a pipe coasting $50,000 AND ONLY TOOK $25,000 WITH HIM, his bank won’t release money he has deposited due to the job isn’t completed yet. Asked if I could help, he would pay me back when he comes home. Told him I don’t have any money. His name is Bryan Solomon. Has anyone been in contact with this man?
run for your life hes a scammer
I was scammed several years back l borrowed 3800.00 and sent the check. Talked to me for a while professed he loved me but couldnt care less whether l lived or died .problem is he appearedon several different dating sites under a different name each time butl would report his picture each time and not feel bad at all
There are so many. I recognize them now and call them out.
I used to get dozens of friend requests from the same type of man; widowed, cute grandkids or dog in picture of military or sporty type posing with plane or tank or sportscar. Working in glam job overseas. DELETE, REFUSE REQUEST. Happily married and not lonely.
I think I am talking to one now. Posted like 40 pictures. Talking for awhile. Just mentioned money I said no. Not hearing much now. Should I post his name? Tony Wilson on Instagram
Had several men all ages fall in love with my photo. Same story all requested ecard. Not falling for it. Can’t believe anything. They get you emotionally hooked. No fool like an old fool. Keep your money in your pocket.
first of all, no 30 something year old knockout girl is looking for a 60 something year old guy. The tipoff is when their contact # they give u to text them does not match the area code where they are from. hmmmm
It Always Starts Out As A Serviceman Of The Armed Forces With Just The Words A Woman Likes To Hear And Then From One Extreme To The Other A Please Don,t Accept A Friend Request From Any Of Them Of Them Unless You Know Them Personally. Because They Are Surely A Scammer Or Catfish! We Need A Place To Enter Their Names On A List On Facebook! They All Originate From Algreria Or Overseas!E
All engineers ,widower, terrible grammar, called me baby.
I have been scammed as well, no money, name was Hervey Clens. Ladies beware !
Was scammed by man on wwf who said he was on oil and gas rig in ocean. After 8 months asked for money to buy new equipment. Said he loved me, sent beautiful poems. I lost thousands before I got wise.
Used the name Brian Kaiser and later Patrick Jonhson
Damn, sounds like the one who scammed me. Name Thomas Hector supposedly working in Northern Scotland where it is green, big mountains and rocky laying cable but the pictures he sent looked like they were taken in the desert. Also a widower with a daughter going to school in the UK.
Does anyone know a Pile Douglas Francis, claimed to be a mechanic that fixed yachts all over the world. He is a widowed with a young son who goes to boarding school. Out of the Austin Texas area. Presently working in Instanbul. Currently needs money. Will be home soon. Sends songs over the net. Calls at odd hours. Lowers the money requests often. Claims to be coming to visit. Has a Facebook page, one friend me. lol Poetry perfect, grammar a little off. Something is not right. Anybody heard if him? Pile Douglas Francis?
I spoke with Pile Francis Douglas via linkedin.com – said he was a marine engineer in Austin Texas area, sent me a photo of him and his son – asked for my phone number so I gave him a phone number to use and when we spoke – he was not Israeli as he said. His voice did not go with the background information nor his picture. He never asked for money but called me his “boo boo baby” I mean OMG (I keep throwing up in my mouth whenever I think of this). Anyway, he “fell in love” with me quickly but I blocked him after a week, he was too fast and especially after I told him NO ROMANCE – just wanted to chat with someone. His grammar went to hell in a handbag after the first couple of emails. I have no proof but I suspect he is a scammer.
I was contacted by him but his son was quarantined at home with him. Called me his boo-boo baby … I”m a year older than him but still. I suspect he’s a scammer so I have blocked him on linkedin.com
Absolutely. I got the same story. His wife died of cancer! He told me he is in Turkey. I sent him over 100,000 dollars thru other people. He’s a very romantic talker. Easy to fall for. Promised me he would come get me when he got home. We were going to live a Happy life together. He told me his name is Pile Francis Douglas. He’s from Austin, TX.
I’m already involved with FBI over this. So many names and stay away from Jim Patrick Guyer! He claims to be his Banker. Gave me a bank account that Francis was going to add me to. The balance in the account was 15 million dollars. He had to pay taxes on this so called money. Patrick maxed ALL of my credit cards. This man is not a Banker!
Haha….funny/not funny….I would NEVER give or “loan” money to anyone online…I also had conversations with men on Words with Friends that were subcontractors on oil rigs….always asking for money or Itune cards…as soon as they started in on their spiel I asked them if they took scamming 101 since they all had the same story….c’mon guys! Get a life n WORK for ur $$….ughhhh..
⁰I think I m being scammed right now. He had a package that he sent to me, bill of lading was 6250.00 like a fool I paid it. Never got the package. Then I sent him money for a ticket, and he said he got shot with a stray bullet, he s in the hospital, just had an operation, said he needed money to send to the doctor, didn’t tell me how much, gave me an iaddress to send the money through Bitcoin. I didn’t do it.
I just wanted to give you his name. FRANK OWEN,
Could his name be Frank John Sowin? I can tell you exactly where he is!
Oh these Scammers are really bad!! I was communicating with an International Trader, his name: John L. Powell
I went through Bankruptcy and had to sell my home to get out of the very Large Debt that I was in. I owed the Bank and credit cards a lot of money!! So I was homeless when a friend took me in and I really appreciate her helping me through a very rough time.. Please be very careful who you talk to on the Internet🌐because
You realty can not Trust Anyone!!
John Soto. John S. Soto Samuel Soto. John S. Powell Soto. He has quite the story. Lots of pictures and love talk. Beware!!!!
I lost 250000. Lost house, huge credit card debt, attempted suicide, my family devastated by my ignorance. Not sure what do about debt. Can never pay back. Reported to police. Did tv interview to warn others. Trying to start over.
Dr Phil has had several stories about these scammers. Several women have been on his show believing that these hustlers are real. They sent the a lot of money. One poor soulnsold her home. Sent bedroom furniture and 2 cars to the guy she was supposed to be in love with and marry. Of course he was a fake. She now has to live with her brother. Most of these stories are from older lonely women who just want to have someone pay attention to them and “Love” them. So very sad. A few have been men. These new shows like 90 Day Fiance are also about lonely people trying to find love. Watch out people this world is cold and cruel. Take care of yourself. Try to get your friends to introduce you to some one. Good luck everyone
I joined this dating site called Pof I started Texan with a man who said he was a car dealer and he had a daughter 14 years old and he was looking for a wife he said he had been divorced six years He had custody of his daughter and said his wife was a cheater And he hasn’t seen her and she’s not allowed to see their daughter ,He said that he had a business in Liverpool England and he was born in North Carolina. He wanted to meet a woman To be a stepmother for his daughter.
He really has me believing everything he said he seem to be Texting a lot .

He Claims he is A car dealer Born in North Carolina that lives with His daughter called Meg 14 In Liverpool England UK.
I just went thru the same thing. After three wld he told me he wanted to marry after his job on the oil rig was done. I asked him where he was &never gave an answer. Then he asked this past week for 1500.00 & that I Toldhim I was on social security. Then he went down to a 1000.00. I kept telling him I didn’t hv the money. Never thought I wld try to get scammed. Didn’t give money. He tried calling 3 times never answered. Then he says his son died in accident 2wks ago. He kept calling me Dear all the time then sweetie Pls be aware of this fellow. When he asked money for apart on his rig that blew my mind. Only known or talking to him for like three weeks. Kept saying he was going to retire when job was done and marry me. Told him no. But wouldn’t accept that. Said how much he loved me. Just be careful of who u talk to on friends.
I had 2 one was Lawrence Todd Craig. In nigeria asked me for 2500 so his kid could get a kidney transplant. Sorry. The next was David Crewe. In an oil rig in Gulf of Mexico. Wife and daughter were killed in car crash and he was taking care of grandaughter. Wanted me to invest in bitcoin and to give him all my personal info. Sorry. Then i started playing the same game asking him for money and itunes cards lol. He said he needed 3000.00 to get a part for his oil rig or he couldnt work. Constantly sent messages on Whatsapp needing money. So i sent him a hundred messages asking him for money. In the end that was how i finally got rid of him lololol.
Was communicating with a man online who decided he wanted to come to town and meet me. Then calls me and tells me he lost his wallet at a rest stop and wanted me to send him $200 so he could finish his trip. Would repay me when he got back home to get things taken of. I said I didn’t have $200.00 and he should call one of his friends or relatives back home for the money. Guess what, he never made it to town and I’ve not heard from him since.
I never talk to anyone I don’t know, or even answer my phone if I don’t recognize the number.
I reported one of these scammers that I met on Match.com to the FBI. Same baloney as most of your stories. I found out who the CEO of Match. Com was and sent him a message on messenger.
Never heard a word back from him, but several months later I got a real picture of this scammer he sent me on Instagram and he looked really pissed! Restifarian?
By the way the CEO of Match. Com is married to Diane Von Furstenberg!
So find out who owns these dating websites and bug the hell out of them!
I was scammed within two days of having my profile on POF, my first try at online dating. His name is Steven Powell, Italian, from Virginia (??) and a large animal vet. That was the hook since my profile said I owned a horse (true). He was going to work in Mexico, treating horses for three weeks and then we’d meet when he got back. But immediately came requests for money to cover his work expenses and all the other emergencies he came up with! He said he couldn’t access his own money in the U.S. And of course lots of iTunes cards. I was so naive and got sucked in fast with all his sweet talk! They get you to suspend reality. I was going thru a difficult divorce and I suspected he was after money from my settlement. This went on for two years!! In the meantime, he had gained my trust and drained every cent I had. I feel so duped and will never see my life’s saving again. Fortunately, I smartened up and ended the texting and calls, but not before he used me up. He was so convincing he WOULD repay me! I was foolishly counting on that. I’ve done a lot of research on this scamming stuff and will never get duped again and no more POF either!!! And yes, I’m an older woman, 66 yrs old, lonely and alone. It’s so shameful, embarrassing and devastating. Not to mention STUPID. It’s really hard to deal with. Please be careful out there. I didn’t think this would happen to me but it sure did!! He kept saying I should follow my heart. Don’t listen, follow your head and gut!!!
Powell is not an Italian last name.
I just had some 47 year old hottie equine vet from Cali contact me on POF last week. I laughed. I’m 61. I call that site Plenty of Bottomfeeders. Deleted my profile. Lonely sucks, but drama and bullshit are worse.
I had a spate of good looking silver haired military men (usually) posing with a tank, plane or sportscar, usually overseas, cute grandkids, sometimes horse or dog. Same spiel. Widowed, lonely, wants a pen pal. I’m happily married so I look for a few seconds to realize all are too good to be true and delete.
I often wonder why women think that a General or Admiral would want to be “friends” with them. If they have that kind of office, they’re probably not looking to find relationships with strangers.
Even engineers working overseas. If they’ve got that kind of education they’ve already got friends and they don’t need to “friend” strangers or be looking for love on dating sites.
Always, always, always reverse check pictures! Always!
How do you reverse pictures ? I have text man for 3 years from GA, tat we nt to Turkey on gove.job . Said widow 7 tears and son that’s went with him but just came chime but he can’t because they have his passport and e can’t leave without he has his plane ticket but needs his passport yo get on plane “?? Talked with a man on IG who was divorced with one child, sent me many pictures, all of which was a man in a Brazilian setting, even pictures of “him” with the President of Brazil! Said he got oil contracts from Brazilian government but lived in Los Angeles, CA
He set me up to look at his fake bank account with 220 million dollars in it. Then went to work on an oil platform in Mexico. Said his machine broke & ask me to transfer 200,000 from his bank account to mine & he would then tell me which materials company to send it to. I knew he was a scam from the get go but played along waiting for the end game. I then called him out & blocked him. He actually emailed me a month later to tell me that I hurt him & that I should delete my IG account since I thought all men were scammers! His name was Marco R. on IG
I feel sorry for the man in the pictures being used as he is obviously closely tied to Brazil!
Eligible old men are out numbered by eligible old women by 3 to 1 .

If these guys have such wonderful jobs, education, etc. WHY are they asking YOU for money? Where is all of there’s? It can’t all (money be tied up. If they have to ask for money, they are no prize…just a scammer.
I play on poker site lots of women wanting to talk private site all 26 to34 they good to you tell them 65 and is just # all day that what does 30 old woman want with old man you got it scam
I am another victim on an online scam. I was contacted on my Instagram page by someone who also had an instagram page and said she was attracted to my profile. I am 76 years old and she said she was 45 but was attracted to older men. We struck up a conversation via text on hangouts for several days. Then she asked if I could help her purchase a birthday gift for her grandson because she hadn’t been paid yet. Sh. e wanted me to send her a Steam card. Didn’t even know what they were but found them and did so. She gave me an address in Texas where I sent flowers. But they were never received as this was a bogus address. She claimed that she had given me false information to make sure she wasnt being scammed herself as she had a bad experience in the past. After more requests for funds, she confessed that she was really a university teacher in California, gave me her name and an address. As time went on, she explained that she was living under the same roof with her separated husband who was abusive. One evening, she said she had been severely abuse by him so I called the police in her town to do a welfare check. The police went to her home and found no evidence of abuse and the couple that was there was quite surprised. The police told me that the person I was texting with had taken pictures of the real woman off her facebook and instagram page and was sending them to me. They said I had been catfished. The person I was texting then sent me a message saying she had given the police a substitute phone to check and covered up her injuries. Following this incident, she told me she needed to get out of the house and wanted to travel to the place where I live. This was around Thanksgiving. Told her I couldn’t do that. She then asked if I could get her funds so she could fly to stay with a friend in Texas. I sent her funds for a ticket. She declined to give me the address of where the friend lived in Texas. Following her supposed arrival there, she requested funds for food, cabs, and medical attention and again asked if she could come visit me on the East Coast. She insisted on booking the flight for which I sent her funds. I requested a booking confirmation code but never received it. When the day arrived for her to travel to where I am, she sent me an OMG message saying the woman she was staying with had taken her ID, money for her ticket and was holding her against her will until she reimbursed her for bills she had paid on her behalf. She asked me for the funds to pay her. I asked her to tell me where she was, saying I was going to call the police in Texas and have them intervene. But she would not give me her location. The next day she left for an unnamed motel to stay at before her flight. But that evening texted me saying the police had arrived because the “friend” claimed she still owed her money. She said she was going to the police station but wouldn’t tell me which one. Again, asked for more funds to pay off the friend so she could get out of town. I sent them. After this there were a series of supposed re-bookings so she could come see me and live with me permanently. The nearest airport is two hours away from me and fortunately I never actually went there to meet her plane. She kept changing flights and never came. The bottom line is I was vulnerable, seeking attention, lonely and captivated by her flattering texts. I never actually talked to her in person or had a live video with her. When I finally got the courage to stop sending her funds, she started begging for small amounts, saying things like “I just need to get something to eat, I am starving.” To this day, I dont know if she was actually in Texas or not, I kept reading her texts and looking at the pictures of a real person who knew nothing about what was going on. I was told by the police in California not to contact that woman. The person texting me kept insisting that was in fact that woman. But the police said if I called again to verify anything, I would be charged with stalking. In the end, I sent several thousand dollars to this scammer. There were many signs along the way that should have told me it wasa scammer. Bad grammar, broken English, refusal to give me access to her instagram page, no specific addresses, no live phone calls, no room number at the motel, no check in name at the motel and so on. My family warned me early on that I was being scammed but I was so in love with the text and person, that I ignored them. Besides losing a lot of money, I lost the respect of my immediate family. I hope others will learn from the mistakes I made.
I can help
Watch out for General Stephen Townsend. Said he is in Syria on special Peace Keeping Mission. Will swear he loves you and wants nothing more than to marry you and live happily ever after, does not want you out of his sight after he gets home and wants to hold you in his arms forever. He only needs $5500.00 to get a package to you because you are the only one he trusts for it to be delivered to you. He calls it his portfolio that is worth millions.
The same General Stephen Townsend who contacted me. Dropped him fast.
My favourite scamming moment was some years ago when the story was to be involved with a large petroleum refining industry and wanting to send some million of dollars to my account. And for this I would receive 10% of the funds.
I answered and said I wanted 90%. I then got a reply scolding me for being greedy.
All this happens also ith people from Europe especially East Europe. I am from Romania and got all these kind of messagges you mentioned. But at the begininning when I got internet I was very stupid and believed a so called General who fell madly in love with me that he has 250,000.00 USDollars for me in a bank account in Ghana and I should call a man I do not rembeber anymore at the Bank there to claim the money. I get in contact though email with this person in Ghana (so I believed than) he said he is the manager and I have to pay a little tax for the money. I send the money via Western Union (stupid again ). And he continued asking me for money for new taxes. I payed from my life savings. Finally I got the card to get the money from a bank here in Romania (so I believed, but he did not sned me the pin number). As you can imagine he asked for 75,000.00 USD for the code saying it s a new law in the bank. Finally I found out how stupid I was . So I learned a though lesson. Meeting these so called lovers they plaay their story on younger women too I just blocked them. But it s amazing how many they are. I am no Marlyn Monroe to get so many marriagge proposals.
Watch out for a James Patrick61 on our time.com. says he is from Poland but now lives in Michigan. Wife and 2 kids died in car accident 10 years ago. Professed his love within a week. Went on business trip to Egypt as a artist and needed 900.00 for a tool that broke. Knew right then he was a scammer. I called him out on it and blocked him. Reported him to Our time. Be careful ladies on Ourtime. Scammers there too.
Patrick Guyer told me he was a Banker with SunTrust. He was working on helping my scammer get money to leave Turkey. He lived in Jacksonville FL with his wife and 2 adult children! He is mean and threatening. He took me for 50,000 that I thought was going to help Pile Francis Douglas!
Coleman Hudson Plenty of Fish, says he is from Richmond VA. In Oslo Norway now had a helicopter crash
Watch out for Jeremy Grass. Middle name supposedly Brown.
An Air Froce Officer from Springhill, Tenn. Age 72 when we started talking on Hangouts. He slso was doing secret missions while in the military. He was in Capetown, South Africa selling precious gems and jewels. Claimed he made a mistake on the U.S. dollar and the African money and needed the difference to get back home.I sent the cash. This went on foe a year. He alwzys had an excuse for not coming back, had to pay the hotel manager, had to pay thr custom fees on the gems he sold, had to pay his BTA which was the Business Travel Allowance, plus the immiggerance travel allowance which had expired. He finally got out of Capetown and landed in the Republic of Benin. Same story all over again, plus a new excuse. He was on his way back to the USA. At the airport chatting with a man. Man said he needed the restroom and would Jeremy watch his bags and move on to the check out lane, as he didn’t want to lose his place in line. Jeremy said sure. The Police found drugs in that bag. They arrested that man and Jeremy. The police held Jeremy in jail until the falling Monday. He got out free, but lost the flight money. He got out of Benin and went to Brent, England. It was a two stop flight. He got off the plane and went shopping for me. They told him to get back 1 hour before the plane takes off for the States. He didn’t makeit, so he lost the flight Another excause.
These were all the excuses he gave me for not getting back to the States to see me has he promised, He loved me. Wrote poetry. Asked for my hand in marriage, had a diamond ring. And most important told me I was the Best. And I fell for it. And lost $95,000.00. He claims to be 6ft tall, 166 lbs, Brown eyes and white hair.and has a Nick name Lambo after the Italian racecar.
I’ve gotten those “Hi Grandma” calls several times. I like to have fun and string them along for a while, get their hopes up, let them think I’m a sucker/victim and they’re putting one over on me. Then I tell them the truth. I have no kids so it’s impossible to have grandkids!
I am on a scammers list. I get at least one scammer a week, sometimes two or three. Lately I play around with them for awhile then I give them hell. They usually block me or tell me they want me to die. At least I managed to waste their time.
Is anyone familiar with the name Christopher O’Connor? He claims to be a Major General in the US Army. At the time we communicated, he was assigned in Guam. Within 3 days of texting he proclaimed his undying love for me. I played his game and went along. After all, it feels good to be wanted and adored. This is the turning point: If we really love each other and desire to be together, I need to send a letter to the UN asking for a military vacation certificate. He dictated how the letter should be worded. This is a direct quote: “I am writing to apply for a military vacation certificate for major general [sic] Christopher O’Connor, who is presently in guma [sic] for a peace keeping mission. I want him to come and visit me here in san[sic] Diego, California. This is very urgent and serious, I promise that he will be safe in return and I am praying that my request to be given consideration so he can be permitted to visit me.” He compelled me to send it right away. Walla! I received the response within the hour with instructions on what I have to do. There were fees for clearances and permits involved which amounted close to $12,000.. So, I texted him with the comment, “Holy cow, You’re going to spend all that money just to see me? That scares me. Who pays for all that? Military personnel are flown for free around the world, aren’t they? Those dollar signs scared the heck out of my little brain.” His answer: “Military personnel are flown for free!!!!!! I don’t think so.that’s the UN and I actually don’t know about they consequences about vacation but when they says it’s A, then it’s A…..so, if thoroughly you want to see me and have you around me then let’s get it done…”
The next day I couldn’t get a hold of him anymore. He was removed from Messenger and FB caught in his shenanigan. The last message I received from him was to switch our communication to email because he was blocked. We continued our conversation by email. This time I told him off in no uncertain terms because his scam was uncovered. Thanks to Frauds and Scammers on FB that’s watching out for us, vulnerable women. And that’s my story.
yes there is a lot of scams like on facebook.they send a friend request and after one day declare their undying love.how stupid can someone be think that you believe in that kind of love.you don’t know each other but you are so in love.Luckily I found out that people used other peoples profiles.after a week or two they want to send you gifts.clothes.fones,laptops,jewelry and brazillian hare and a lot of things.you even did not used that hair because you had beautiful real hair.then they will send it via south Africa.you must pay for the receiving of the gifts.and they give you a certain amount.its between 3000 and8000 dollars.after that they are no where to be found if you are calling for the gifts.they just disappeared from the page and earth.you never received your money or the gifts.what I do to this people I just said I don’t need anything then they become angry.nothing about love anymore.so on that note I just want to warn the ladys that someone cannot love you if he don’t know you.
I have been on the Plenty Of Fish site for several months. Within that time, no fewer than 15 strangers have messaged me stating that while *they* had been lucky in love and no longer needed to find anyone, their friend/neighbor/brother had caught sight of my profile and was DYING to meet me~!! However, they wanted to speak off-site and desired my e-mail address.
Now, it is clear this is a scam of some sort – but WHAT? Even if I spoke to them from my personal e-mail address, what would they glean? Does anyone know?
On these dating sites, I believe is a scam when a person claiming to be 60 something looks 40 and sends a message to text her on her phone number or to send you yours so she can contact you.
How do they work those scams? They do not want a text on the dating site.
I know I am dealing with a scammer from Facebook, he is using the name Morris Pearson, I am his Queen, so I call him my King, started out as a friendly conversational, wife died from cancer, he waiting on a response to finish training to get his license to start his own business. He has no friends on Facebook, we talked on messenger for about a month, then wanted to talk by text, we chatted for about 2 month’s he was gonna have a birthday, so I told him I was gonna be vacationing close by come visit and I would treat him to dinner, he said he had to pack to leave for Australia at a moment’s notice, but would keep in touch. He has called several times, but refused to give me an email address, send beautiful pictures of who supposed to be him. Reverse images doesn’t give me any results. After he has supposedly been in Australia for 8 weeks he needed to start payments on our vacation in January and found out his bank account was hacked and he cannot get his money refunded until he returns to the US. He needed to have his money from the Sports Association transfer to my account, told him that was not happening, then he would have them send me the check and I can deposit it, told him nobody money goes in my account but mine. He became irritated and told me he didn’t want my money he had enough to take care of me and him then challenge me on my not trusting him. I hinted I was not gonna get scammed, he got upset and immediately called me as to why I was not trusting him, told him I had a husband who caused me not to trust him with my finances and I don’t know you. We’re still in touch, but he knows I am aware of the game, but I want to see how long he gonna last because he’s not getting any money.
I get many scammers ,do remember they believe they are exceedingly cleaver and you are meat for the grinder.
So with that firmly fixed in your brain.
Plan to scam the scammmer.
You need to win his trust ..
Then finally ask him to send you a very small amout of money with Western UNION.
Tell him you want to send him 10 dollars but are unsure.
After you recieve HIS money tell him to do it again just to make sure its ok with a bigger sum of money 200 dollars. Remeber to say thank you. ..
I have been a damn fool.after wife died i went thru hard time and met a person by the name of isabel galvez. Said she lived in new jersey and went to malaysia for business for a company called quest. It all started out wonderful and her texts and hangouts made my day, then things seemed to go bad for her. Visa problems, invoice problems etc. Company wasnt helping. Hotel wasnt paid. No money to get her back to new jersey to her home.. well long story short i fell for it and lost 60000 dollars of my retirement money.paperwork and pictures were professional.even my friends were convinced she was real..i blame the dating site match. They had to have known..two thing i have noticed about a scam they cant talk on phone longer than 10 seconds and they wont video.always a phone problem..beware of isabel galvez guys..she is good..she still texts me every couple of weeks but i never reply..says we were in love and its all my fault because i dont believe her.
This does not make them stupid, just as a person who suffers a fall is not automatically labeled careless.
why don’t seniors in community hepl each other to know nice people, so scammers can’t hurt them so easily? why people trust stangers from website, but ignore communication with neighborhood?
PIERRE PERROT FROM MARSAILLES FRANCE BUT LIVED IN SANTA BARBARA CALIF < HAVE 68 PHOTOS OF HIM, SPOKE TO HIM BRIEFLY SEVERAL TIMES ON PHONE. IS IN COTE D'IVOIRE,ABIDJAN SO AFRICA, SCAMMED ME, THINK SCAMMER USED THIS MAN'S PHOTOS TO SCAM ME, DID ANYONE ELSE GET SCAmmed by him?
Yes, it happens to me some months ago, an American woman soldier claims to be in war front at Afghanistan, she later told me she is Iraq, which she found large bag contains million of dollars, that after the soldiers shear the money her own was million dollars, so,because of the war situation she can be able to get out, I should please, begin me to some money so she can send the money to me in Nigeria, for safety.she don’t know, iam,ex,int, operative, from, Nigeria Army,so she try every thing she can, sending me fake pictures, but I told her she is amateur. When she realized, she is in wrong hand, she stoped sending me her stupid messages, so we have to becareful, this fraudulent guys are using troops in war field to steal money from people, tnx.
Divorce, death of a spouse, end of a relationship, retirement can cause such loneliness and vulnerability. These scammers are ruthlessly skilled emotional master manipulators. People generally earn about a 20-40$ salary/month in places like Nigeria, Ghana…so playing these dating websites and sweet talking lonely and love-starved middle aged men and women obviously pays in dividends!! Many people with a good and generous heart, even not being “in love” want to help others in need. It’s so very tragic that people get so drawn in they dont know when to finally say “enough”. When I get messages on FB from these people, I just ignore, or am intentionally rude, report, and block. My coffee came out my nose once when one dude from Nigeria messaged me with “Hello my beautiful future wife!” LOL. I told him to “GTF out of my inbox!” He replied why I was so angry?? I told him Im not angry, just dont want any messages from him. He tried a few more times, but saw I wasnt taking his bait.
From my vantage point on the far side of 70, it seems as if half the people in the world are on the grift, and the other half are marks. Social networks. We were better off before we old people invented them. Amazing in what little regard today’s young people hold us old-timers. I know what you’re thinking, youngsters. “They’re just old boomers, and they deserve what they get.” Here’s a secret we’ve been keeping from you. Once we were your age, and one day you’ll be ours, if your luck holds out.
Well said and so true.
I love the one where I won prize money. I only need to send so much so they can mail the check to me. I tell them to take their share out of the prize and send me the rest. Still waiting for the check. HA HA HA on the scammers.

Goodness, don’t know where to begin…There are times I get 2 or 3 friend request a day. Usually I straight delete them. Check their Timeline, all are posted in the last 2 days Check the “like” under their picture, it will tell where they are..Syria, Afghanistan, Nigeria, Ghana, or if they are on a Rig, they’re somewhere in Europe. Kabul must be occupied by 4 Star Generals, only seen one Sgt.
Was talking to Seth Roland, got a few pictures, kind of cute, The second day, he loves me, the second week he needs 4600.00 to get his Box send to me ( diamonds, cash, Credit , Debit card and his traveling papers ) are in it. Get the box, he’ll sent me the Pin to open it, to fax him the travel papers. Sorry babe dont have that kind of dough, make a loan, (can’t get one)ask friends (they’re just as broke as I am), sell my jewelry…really! Well how much can you come up with ? His Buddies will give him the rest. Pay you back with interest when I get home . Now I’m stone hearted, not a Christian, bad person, need and will turn into a old, lonely woman. Thank you, happy who I am, single is better. DELETED LORDY I could tell stories
I’ve been almost victimized by an australian bearing a name of george griffin (he even sent me a photo) who works in cambodia. He said he got $7m in a financing firm in uk. His employer is just giving him allowance while the rest of his salary goes to the financing firm for safekeeping.he’s an only son, his mother died after giving birth to him and its only his father who brought him up. We’ve communicated thru email for 2 months after which he started convincing me to send him $350 which i always decline till its gone down to $50 which i never send, not even a single centavo. He told me to send the money thru money order to nigeria. He gave me the name and address. I’ve researched a lot just to prove to myself that this is a scam. The certificate from the financing firm is fabricated, i myself checked its authenticity. I checked thru internet the financing firm and learned it closed down in 1990s. I was frank enough to tell him that its a scam which he denied. I stopped communucating but after 3 weeks i received again an email that he’s swearing to high heavens how much he loves me but i told him to stop his foolishness. From there, everything stopped. Its good am old and witty enough not to be fooled by these scammers.
I also get trapped in a romance scam last year 2019. and he was from Nigeria. At first he contacted me in Instagram as Kelvin Scott and said that he is from Texas,USA and is submarine engineer works in cruise ships. On that period of time i was going through a depression so was easily get influenced by him, though he was not so charming as he was showing himself through someone else picture,he was using someone else picture. Later he said that he is married but her wife is dead due to breast cancer and had a daughter. After 1 month chat he proposed me but i refused but after two days i accept and than he’s real game starts. On 2nd feb he said that his ship is docking in Finland and he is going to shop for his family. A night he message me and said that he shopped for me too and sended all the pics of the things he purchased including diamond rings and asked me to send my address immediately so that he can parcel all the things,i was shocked and was requesting him not to send anything because my family did not aware of this things so but he didn’t listen,in hurry i sended him my address, later he told me that he has also sended me 50 thousand dollars in a brown envelope inside the parcel,i was again get another big shock,i get angry on him and ask the reason and he explain that when he come to see me he will use that money for his expenditure. After two days he message me that his parcel is stuck in airport and need 20 thousand dollar to deliver to my home address so he requested me to pay for now and when he will come will pay me back all the money…Than a lady call me and said that your parcel is stuck so if you want than send me 20 thousand dollar online,if you ready to make the payment than i will send the account no and i said ok. But lucky i m able to manage that amount of money within time period. The lady call me again and again and i refuse to receive,at last she message me and ask are you ready to pay and i said no…As i m a student and aware of the things related custom payments and all, i asked him to send me the bills of the things he purshased, first he refuse than he said ok,then he send me a parcel delivery website which was a fake..At the end all things get clear in front of my eyes but till than i was fallen in love with the man he portrait,i use to chat with him for another 3 months by saying that i m arranging the money for parcel but in real i was not doing anything bcz i was know that is was all fake but i was enjoying chatting with him, after three months i clear the things that i don’t trust any of you and will not send the money..Now the man he protrait as him i started searching him and now today i know everything about him i is in contact with bcz i love him so much, may be it is my destiny…But ya due to my alertness and by using my brains he not able to trap me in his bad intensions to cheat. This is my story and i m 26 years old women.
why don’t seniors in community hepl each other to know nice people, so scammers can’t hurt them so easily?
Hhhhmmmm. It will be difficult to identify the good ones since the actions of the scammers damaged the reputation of anyone with good intention. So what we can do is to study each other for a period of time before thrusting valuables and our heart into their care.
Your article is very meaningful, the content is quite interesting and impressive, I hope in the near future you will have many good and meaningful articles to bring to readers.
Thanks for the information your post brings. I see the novelty in your text, I will share it for everyone to read. I look forward to reading more articles from you.
It is such a shame that these “scammers” are making it hard for men who are real, just looking for someone to spend time with for dinner, drinks and whatever because they are tired of being alone, and don’t need any money for anything. Well, there is great power in knowing one is not involved in a senior scam. I’ve had several innocent friends scammed ~ it is similar to a virus. Thankfully we are not of the scammer nor virus molds. XO Stay well darlings.
I had the same experience 5 years back. My own grandfather got involved in this romance but luckily got rid of it without any loss because my old man is extra sharp and clever… he kept them busy for like a month and enjoyed their every move and tactic to steal money from him… after wasting 2 months on my grandfather; they disappeared..
I too have had experienced at least five of them on FB with pretty young profile photos of potential scammers. I know by feel that they are not for real because I have checked each one of their identities. First, all of them don’t have a single friend on the list. All of them have pretty faces and three of them were in the military service of the US Army complete with photos of real people who I believe later that the one in contact with me isn’t the one in the photos. Late just last August, a pretty woman dressed in a sailor uniform who claimed she is the operations director of a large shipping company based in London. I checked her name in the said company, her name doesn’t exist. Upon knowing all of the information that I gathered, I stopped replying to their messages.
I was hoping to see one of the stories that match what trough. I accepted an friend request on Facebook. The man named was Graham Richard. He was stationed in Aleppo. Syria under the peacekeeping forces. Divorced. 2sons. We talked several days he love me . He was going come to see me when he retired. I knew it was scamme. But I enjoyed what he said to me. He convincd me to send 50 ITUNES card,, I could never get transferred. Thati is when he got mad and some nasty things. If anyone has similar story I would interested

I am here to share to everyone that reads this that the world did not end for me as I was introduced me to Assetrecoverynow(.) co . These guys recovered all my money lost to this scammer and also assisted the authorities in prosecuting the scammer. Justice was done. You can only protect yourself from romance scam only if you don’t use the social media platform and dating websites. As far as you do, no matter how careful you are, you would still be in danger cause the scammers are smart with the trick they use and would go any length to trick and steal from you.

Scam is the reason why is so many people won’t offer to help people they meet online. downloading a dating app to find love is a very bad idea. Don’t use dating apps or social media platform to find love, it a total waste of time. Whoever you find online will definitely want your money.
